The Etyek-Buda Wine Region, often named Budapest’s vineyard is only a 20-minutes drive from Budapest. I’d be pleased to introduce you to one of the newest and fastest-growing Hungarian wine regions, where you can meet charming and smiling locals, you can taste the best local white wines and traditional cheese, sausage, and cakes, too. Join my private Etyek Wine Tour to have some fun around the vineyards and the wine cellars!

In its present form Etyek is one of the country’s newest wine regions, although the first document of wine production is from the 1100’s. Etyek’s fast development started in the 1800’s when sparkling wine producers started to source their grapes in the region. Local grapes are ideal for sparkling wine production as the climate and the soil are very similar to those of Champagne in France.  Actually, a French nobleman from Champagne started to produce grapes for sparkling wines as early as 900 years ago.

I’d like to show you around the unique cellars carved in limestone which also are the landmark of Etyek. We’ll visit several winemakers at three different locations. We start our walk at the Old Hill, its small, family wine cellars are adorable and have a very unique atmosphere. We’ll continue at the circle of cellars where we’ll visit boutique wineries. We’ll finish our tour by visiting the New Hill, so that you can get familiar with the young generation of winemakers. I’ll also show you around the cellars of a family-owned winery.

The tour includes other tasting options, too. Trying local cheese, sausage, hand-made bread and pastries will surely not disappoint you.

Julia was excellent. We had her for 2 days. We had arrived 4 days earlier and seen a lot of the sites but she provided so much info we didn’t get on our own. We also went to place we didn’t realize were there. Strongly recommend to tour with her. Ask about the wine country also. Great half day trip and very pretty countryside. Julia’s English was better than our whole groups. If we can get back to Budapest we will hire her in a heartbeat.

We were in Budapest for three days and spent two of them with Julia. The first day was a tour of the City and the second was on a wine tour of the Etyek region. Julia was very friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Our group of four had a great time, learned a great deal about Budapest and also laughed a lot. Truly a great experience

Julia is a fantastic guide; efficient, calm, relaxed and humorous. We were a group of 45 , yet it felt like we each had her personal attention at all times.

Julia took us to tour many vineyards in Etyak wine country back in September. We were a rambunctious group of 9 of all ages with varying tastes and wants but the one thing we could all agree on is that Julia was the best!(not even the wine talking) She is an enthusiastic and bright person with a fun sense of humor. Within minutes it felt like she was part of the group, our very own knowledgeable friend from Hungary! She was passionate about her country and we learned a lot from her. I would reccomend her to anyone! When we come back to Hungary we will definitely look her up! Thanks Julia!

Our group hired Julia for two days, the first being the Danube Bend, which I already reviewed, and the second day touring Budapest and vineyards outside Budapest. Again the attention to our interests and her dedication to see that even the smallest request were not only met but exceeded make for an unforgettable experience. Julia is knowledgable, personable, and yet open and an instant friend. Wonderful guide, highly recommended. Thanks again, Julia. You made our trip.
