My name is Julia Kravianszky and I adore Hungary.

I was born and raised in Budapest, I lived here all my life so I consider myself a real Budapester. I’m a passionate and enthusiastic private tour guide and I would like to show you around my beautiful country that I hope you’ll never forget. Moreover, I’d love to share with you all the hidden treasures, fascinating stories, and authentic local experiences that my hometown and country have to offer.

I speak fluent English and French, and I offer customised private tours for individuals, couples, families, and small groups. Whether this is your first time in Hungary or you’re returning to explore it deeper, my goal is to help you experience it like a local — not just visit it as a tourist.

Why I Became a Tour Guide

My journey as a private tour guide started already in high school. I knew from the very beginning that this is what I was meant to do. Guiding isn’t just my profession – it’s my true passion. Over the years, I’ve come to believe that the best way to explore a city’s culture, history, and everyday life is through the eyes of a local. Therefore during our time together, I’ll share with you not only historical facts and famous landmarks. Also, I will be happy to share local legends, personal anecdotes, and secret stories you won’t find in any guidebook.

Explore Budapest and Beyond

My private guided tours in Budapest are fully tailored to your interests and schedule. For instance, you can choose from relaxed walking tours through charming districts, scenic car or minivan tours covering major highlights, or even day trips to the Hungarian countryside, where you can discover beautiful small towns, wine regions, castles, and natural wonders.

Hungary is a fascinating blend of cultures, histories, and influences – from Ottoman and Habsburg heritage to vibrant modern life – and I’d love to help you explore all its unique shades.

As the photo editor of Hungary’s most popular food magazine, I also have a deep love and knowledge of Hungarian cuisine. So if you’re a foodie, be sure to ask me for tips! I can recommend authentic restaurants, cozy cafés, and hidden gems. Therefore, you can taste traditional dishes like goulash, chimney cake, lángos, and more. In addition, we can include food tastings in your tour if you’d like!

Whether you’re interested in architecture, history, culture, gastronomy, photography, or just want to have fun and make unforgettable memories, I’ll do my best to create a personalised experience just for you.

JEWISH QUARTER BUDAPEST WALK

Julia Kravianszky was a very knowledgeable, open minded teacher and tour guide. She clearly loves both the Jewish Quarter and the city of Budapest. As someone who spent more than three decades with the Canadian Jewish Congress, I have written extensively about the Holocaust and its impact on our people.

Walking with Julia through the Jewish Quarter, she shared stories of history, tragedy, resilience, and renewal. She also spoke about the revitalization we are now beginning to see in parts of the community.

Do yourself a favour. If you ever go to Budapest, have Julia as your guide.

BUDAPEST PANORAMA BY CAR (FULL-DAY)

Our travel party of four had a wonderful day with Julia (assisted by her driver George), including pick-up and drop-off at Keleti Rail Station. We were only in Budapest for a day, but Julia brought us on a fabulous “highlights tour” with Hungarian history and heroes, amazing views, architecture, cultural insights, and new perspective on the amazing Magyar people who are charting their own course after so many years of wrestling with empires, world wars and communism.

Julia was delightful to spend the day with – knowledgeable, thoughtful, funny, and well organized with a plan for the day. We kept moving to see as much as possible, but did not feel rushed.
We highly recommend Julia to other travelers – we had and an unforgettable Budapest experience.

COMMUNIST BUDAPEST WALK

We were recently in Budapest and took Julia’s Communist Budapest Tour. I can only say good things about this tour. Julia took the time to show us around, but most importantly, she shared her experiences growing up in occupied Budapest.
Our family found Hungary’s history super interesting, and we took back with us information that will stay with us forever!
I hope we can be back in Budapest and take more of Julia’s tours to learn even more about the city.
Thank you Julia for such a wonderful experience!

BUDAPEST ESSENTIALS WALK (HALF-DAY)

Our half day tour felt much shorter than it actually was. Julia’s pace and presentation was perfect for us. Our group liked her ability to connect us to Hungary through her own experience as a native. One of our group especially appreciated her skill to give context in a concise, easily understood manner. I recommend making Julia your first choice.

BUDAPEST WALKING & DRIVING TOUR (FULL-DAY)

My family and I spent a day with Julia while spending a couple of weeks in Europe. She was absolutely the best tour guide that we encountered. Knowledgeable, friendly, and adaptable. I highly recommend her for time in Budapest.
