I used to offer the Communist Budapest tour by the iconic TRABANT car but unfortunately that is no longer available because I’m concerned about its effect on our environment.
During the Communist driving tour we’ll discover the most important monuments of our Communist past: Soviet Army Memorials, an abandoned factory, and the Memento Park. I’d like you to become familiar with 40 years of Communist dictatorship in Hungary. A private Budapest driving tour and many childhood memories to share with you.
Something you might consider a symbolic icon of the Communist bloc actually represents my childhood. I grew up during the Communist era and I’d be really happy to share my experiences with you. I’ll show you a different Budapest, not the shiny and colorful city that you can see on the pages of the travel magazines but the neighborhoods where the time has stopped 30 years ago, where you can still see remains of our Communist past.
I’ll tell you about our history re-written several times and about the Communist era and the political changes seen from a child’s perspective. We’ll see monuments remembering the 1956 revolution.
We’ll drive all around the city center, the 8th and 9th districts. I’ll then show you the House of Terror, the former headquarters of the Hungarian secret police. We’ll also see the neglected factories of the Csepel island, and the extremely monumental statues of the Memento Park. We’ll end the tour with admiring the magnificent view from the top of the Gellért hill.

Julia was an absolutely wonderful tour guide. I toured with her for several days and did her Trabant tour, Jewish Quarter, Buda & Pest tours, and the Foodie tour. All were delightful. Julia was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Budapest and was always prompt and courteous. I cant recommend her enough. If I ever return to Budapest I’d definitely get another tour with Julia.
