I’d like to guide you over Transdanubia, so that we can discover the region’s medieval castles and elegant palaces. Let me try to amaze you by visiting charming historic towns, beautiful wineyards and by the fascinating view over the lake Balaton.
We’ll first visit Veszprém, a majestic town built on 5 hills. I’ll show you around the castle of Veszprém, very often named the town of queens. We’ll visit the 13th century Nagyvázsony castle so that I can share with you all its secrets.
We’ll drive through the Kál basin which is truly a picturesque neighborhood of Transdanubia with unique Mediterranean atmosphere. I’ll show you nicely preserved 300-year-old buildings and in addition, I’ll also introduce you to very friendly local farmers and winemakers. The lake Balaton is very often named the Hungarian Sea. It’s the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, surrounded by beautiful hills and extinct volcanoes.
We’ll take a walk around the beautifully restored Baroque Festetics Palace in Keszthely. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about the everyday life of the Hungarian aristocracy in the 18th and 19th centuries.
There are altogether 6 wine regions around the lake. We’ll therefore have the chance to taste the region’s best wines in Badacsony. I’m convinced that you’ll be rather amazed by the stunning view from the top of the hill while enjoying a glass of local wine.
We’ll visit Tihany, which isn’t just gorgeous but most noteworthy is actually the richest Hungarian town. We’ll see the 11th century Benedictine Abbey and the most stunning view over the lake from the top of the hills of the Tihany Peninsula. Finally, we’ll walk around the Baroque old town of Balatonfüred, where I’ll show you how and where the wealthy aristocrats lived 100 years ago.
