On this Buda Castle Walk private tour of Castle Hill, we visit Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church, trace medieval-to-Baroque layers, and enjoy sweeping Danube views—tailored to you.
What we’ll explore on the Buda Castle Walk
Buda became Hungary’s capital in the 13th century, and the hill still wears a gorgeous mix of medieval and Baroque. We’ll begin on the cobbled streets around Trinity Square, then admire the fairy-tale terraces of Fisherman’s Bastion and the richly decorated exterior of Matthias Church—a church many locals see as a symbol of Hungarian history. (Interior visit on request; tickets separate.)
From there we thread through quiet backstreets with medieval remains and handsome Baroque townhouses before opening out to the Royal Palace terraces for sweeping views of the Parliament and Chain Bridge. I’ll show you how the site evolved—from medieval castle to Habsburg Baroque palace—and share stories of coronations, sieges and everyday life on the hill.
Castle Garden Bazaar & sweet pause
We’ll descend (or ascend!) via the Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár)—yes, you can take the stairs or escalator—a 19th-century riverside complex turned leafy promenade with superb Danube views. If you like, we’ll pause at a beloved confectionery for coffee and cake; I’ll point you to my favorite slices and where to return later.
How it feels
Think intimate alleyways, courtyards, crests and carved doors—plus those unbeatable panoramas over Beautiful Budapest. I’ll tailor the route to your interests: more photos, more architecture, gentler paths, or a museum stop such as the Budapest History Museum or Hospital in the Rock.

Tour Reviews
Julia’s tour of Buda was excellent. She was very responsive and thorough as we made arrangements. Because we had seen some of Buda and Pest, she customized our tour. She met with us at the start of the tour to finalize the plan and then delivered, taking us to some hidden gems while providing history but not overwhelming us. Her pacing was great. We saw Matthias Church when the crowd was almost nonexistent. She took us all over the castle district and gave us a very interesting overview and related facts. She directed us to finding paprika. Our group mentioned a beer break and she found just the right place for us. She suggested a great place for dinner, and again, perfect for us. She really knows the town, she really got to know us and delivered an excellent personalized tour. We highly recommend Julia.
We (three couples) hired Julia to provide two half-day tours – The Best of Pest Walk and The Buda Castle Walk. From booking the tours to coordinating meeting at the cruise ship and hotel it was an easy, smooth process. Julia tailored the tours to our interests and requests and adjusted the tours as needed on the fly. Her knowledge of Budapest and her calm, easy-going style made for a wonderful, memorable experience. She also provided great restaurant recommendations.
My husband and I had a fabulous afternoon in beautiful Budapest with Julia .
Julia is engaging knowledgeable and friendly -Highly recommend.
We were sorry when our time together came to an end .
Julia is an exceptional tour guide in Budapest! We took two morning half-day walking tours. One morning in Pest and one morning in Buda. Her deep knowledge of the city’s history and culture made our experience truly unforgettable. She tailored the tour to our interests, ensuring a perfect balance of historical insights and local discoveries. Her warmth, professionalism, and storytelling skills brought Budapest to life. Whether it’s famous landmarks or off-the-beaten-path spots and neighborhoods, Julia knew it all. Highly recommend her for an insightful and engaging tour!
Beautiful city and a very knowledgeable guide, enjoyed every minute of the tour. Thanks!
I hosted a turkish guy, we went to the castle, I thought that the castle tour will be boring, but it was really interesting and cool. Our tourguide was amazing. She spoke really great english and told us interesting things about Budapest and the castle of Buda. I recommed everyone Julia. She is the best!
We were in a tour in the castle with a lot of Turkish guys. Juli was fantastic. She is one of the best tour guide in hungary or maybe she is the best. She has really good English. She speaks loudly, slowly, and so clearl. She knows a lot about the history of castle, and she also knows a lot of interesting thing about the spirit of Hungary. I think if you want a good tour guide she is the best choice.
The Buda tour with Julia was amazing. Informative and entertaining at the same time. Join these guides for the perfect understanding of the city.
We were a family of 4 and visited 4 cities on a Europe tour. Budapest was our last stop & we were tired. Julia was a wonderful surprise! She was our favorite tour guide of the trip! She had so much enthusiasm, knowledge & experience we fell in love with Budapest. Julia catered to our kids as well as the parents & we learned so much! She was so good we were lucky to book her the next day to show us more of the city. She has a brilliant plan to see a lot & not waste time. You will love her!
