Budapest is very often named City of Waters because of the 123 hot springs feeding our stunning bathhouses with  medical waters ranging from 21 °C to 76 °C. During the Budapest Baths walking tour I’d like to show you around our thermal-heated baths. Their history dating back to hundreds of years keeps Budapest bathing traditions alive even nowadays.

The Romans have been living here recognized the importance of the local hot springs as early as 2000 years ago and built impressive baths so that they could utilize and enjoy the thermal springs. During the Ottoman rule authentic Turkish baths were built further increasing the importance and diversity of bathing.

Bathing really is a key element of local culture, and I want to show you around the most famous and lesser-known spas. Budapest’s hot springs provide 70 million liters of thermal water every day. In addition to being popular tourist attractions, our 20 baths also offer a very pleasant experience at the end of a busy and tiring day.

Let’s walk around the 450-year-old Turkish baths, the most popular Széchenyi Baths, one of the largest bathing complexes in all Europe. That’s where locals play chess in the warm water pool even today.

You’ll also get to know the Gellért Bath, which inspired the authors of the Grand Budapest Hotel as well.
