Join the Eger Wine Tour if you’re interested in the combination of exploring a beautiful Hungarian Baroque town and tasting some of the best local red wines. Let me take you to the historical town of Eger with the second largest church of the country. We’ll see some authentic 400-year-old Turkish memories and the great medieval fortress of Eger. And finally, let’s taste the famous Bull’s Blood, one of the best Hungarian red wines.
Let me show you around Eger where we will see the great fortress of Eger that witnessed many fascinating events of our history. The town’s soldiers were successful in defending the fortress from the expanding Ottoman Empire in a heroic battle in 1552. They were also able to stop the Turks for over 40 years. I’ll take you for a walk around the Baroque old town so that I can show you the richly decorated Basilica, the second largest church of the country. We’ll visit the 15th century castle, Eger’s great fortress. We’ll also see the 400-year-old remains from the Turkish era, including Hungary’s northernmost Turkish minaret and traditional Turkish baths.
Later, we’ll see the most unique Hungarian open-air spa at Egerszalók with a total of 17 outdoor and indoor pools. One can enjoy the benefits of thermal water while sitting and relaxing in hot water. We’ll also visit local wineries in the Valley of the Beautiful Women and we’ll taste the best red wines of the Eger wine region. Be careful, the Bull’s Blood is delicious but is very powerful at the same time. According to our legends the Bull’s Blood gave extra power to the defenders of the Eger fortress in 1552 which led to their victory over the Ottomans.

Tour Reviews
its difficult to express how much we enjoyed our two tours with Julia who is an exceptional guide – one of the best, if not the best we have encountered through this site. We quickly established a good relationship and shared views on a range of subjects. Julia has very fluent English and is a very experienced guide and informant. Very highly recommended.
My wife and I travel a great deal, and touring with Julia for two days was a delight. Day 1 we did her Grand Budapest tour; hours of seeing the best of Buda and Pest. Julia, had so many personal insights that the day flew by. The second day we traveled to Eger, and besides sampling wine, Julia showed us some amazing sites. Julia’s passion for her city and country is very evident, but she also shares issues that the country is experiencing which gives us, as tourists a greater insight into the country that most guides and tours never touch. Overall, Juliua is not just a guide, but a person you wish you could travel with everywhere in the world.
