Let me take you to the second oldest town of Hungary, we’ll visit Pécs, cultural capital of Europe in 2010. After visiting the most beautiful attractions of the city, we’ll drive to the stunning hills of Villány, so that you can taste what is said to be the best Hungarian red wine. Book the Pecs and Villany wine tour if you’d like to see a well-preserved and beautiful Hungarian town and to taste some great Hungarian wines.

Pécs has always been a multicultural city with a history of over two thousand years. I’ll show you the Early Christian Necropolis from the Roman era. Sopiane (the Roman name of Pécs) was the administrative center of the Valeria province and a most significant early Christian settlement from the 2nd century.  The Christian cemeteries – 16 in total – are listed among UNESCO World Heritage sites.

My favourite Hungarian church is the 11th century Pécs Cathedral. I’ll of course show you one of the oldest churches of the country which is perhaps one of the most beautiful ones, too.

Both the region and almost the entire country were under Ottoman rule from the beginning of the 16th century. Pécs is therefore probably the richest Hungarian town in Turkish remains. I’ll take you to the central Gazi Kasim Turkish mosque, the Minaret, a Turkish Bathhouse and a Mausoleum as well.

We’ll then walk around the Baroque old town. We’ll wonder around the little cafés and restaurants with a rather unique Meditarranean atmosphere and charming cobblestoned streets.

I’ll also show you around the nearby Zsolnay quarter. It’s the new cultural neighborhood built around the famous factory manufacturing fine and amazing ceramic and porcelain.

Finally, we’ll drive to Villány and will stop at some of the most amazing local wine cellars. There you can taste the best Hungarian red wines, meet local winemakers and also learn more about Hungarian winemaking. You’ll enjoy the unforgettable panorama over the surrounding hills while enjoying a glass of wine.
