With its fairytale-like towers, sweeping terraces, and breathtaking views over the Pest side of the city, it\u2019s a place that leaves a lasting impression on first-time visitors and returning travellers alike.<\/p>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1638\">What is Fisherman\u2019s Bastion?<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"1639\" data-end=\"2041\">Despite its castle-like appearance, Fisherman\u2019s Bastion was never built for defense. Constructed between 1895 and 1902, it replaced part of the medieval town walls of Buda and was designed as a panoramic lookout terrace. Its Neo-Romanesque style was chosen to complement the neighbouring <a href=\"https:\/\/lovefromhungary.com\/a-must-see-matthias-church\/\"><strong data-start=\"1927\" data-end=\"1968\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Matthias Church<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>, creating one of the most beautiful architectural ensembles in the city.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2207\">The Bastion features <strong data-start=\"2064\" data-end=\"2087\">seven ornate towers<\/strong>, symbolizing the seven Hungarian tribes who settled in the Carpathian Basin in 896 \u2014 a key moment in Hungarian history.<\/p>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2209\" data-end=\"2250\">Why is it called Fisherman\u2019s Bastion?<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"2251\" data-end=\"2565\">The name comes from the <strong data-start=\"2275\" data-end=\"2297\">guild of fishermen<\/strong> who, in the Middle Ages, were responsible for defending this section of the city walls. Today, instead of guarding Budapest, the Bastion offers one of the best viewpoints in the city \u2014 especially towards the <a href=\"https:\/\/lovefromhungary.com\/a-must-see-the-houses-of-parliament\/\"><strong data-start=\"2506\" data-end=\"2547\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Hungarian Parliament Building<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a> across the river.<\/p>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2567\" data-end=\"2580\">The views<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"2581\" data-end=\"2636\">From the terraces, you\u2019ll enjoy a stunning panorama of:<\/p>\r\n<ul data-start=\"2637\" data-end=\"2765\">\r\n<li data-start=\"2637\" data-end=\"2657\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2639\" data-end=\"2657\">the Danube River<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"2658\" data-end=\"2678\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2660\" data-end=\"2678\">the Pest skyline<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"2679\" data-end=\"2698\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2681\" data-end=\"2698\">Margaret Island<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"2699\" data-end=\"2726\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2701\" data-end=\"2726\">the Parliament building<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"2727\" data-end=\"2765\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2729\" data-end=\"2765\">bridges stretching across the city<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p data-start=\"2767\" data-end=\"2925\">It\u2019s beautiful at any time of day, but the atmosphere changes constantly with the light, weather, and seasons \u2014 which is why I never get tired of visiting it.<\/p>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2927\" data-end=\"2963\">Visiting tips from a local guide<\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"2964\" data-end=\"3363\">\r\n<li data-start=\"2964\" data-end=\"3132\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2966\" data-end=\"3132\"><strong data-start=\"2966\" data-end=\"2984\">Upper terrace:<\/strong> Part of the Bastion requires a small entrance fee, and I highly recommend going up \u2014 the view is worth it.
