Centuries ago, this was a place of withdrawal and reflection. Medieval monasteries once stood here, followed by periods when the island served as a place of isolation. Its most famous resident was Princess Margaret<\/strong>, daughter of King B\u00e9la IV, who chose a life of service and devotion on the island in the 13th century.
