Together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lovefromhungary.com\/must-see-the-upper-castle-of-visegrad\/\"><strong data-start=\"582\" data-end=\"598\">Upper Castle<\/strong><\/a>, the palace forms a remarkable castle complex that offers insight into how Hungarian royalty lived at the height of their power.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"729\" data-end=\"880\">Located above the Danube, in the historic town of Visegr\u00e1d, this palace allows visitors to step directly into the world of <strong data-start=\"852\" data-end=\"879\">15th-century royal life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"882\" data-end=\"914\">From ruins to royal splendour<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"1259\">The fact that we can admire the palace today is thanks to the work of a <strong data-start=\"988\" data-end=\"1026\">passionate Hungarian archaeologist<\/strong>, who discovered the ruins hidden beneath an orchard. Thanks to decades of archaeological research and careful reconstruction, the palace has been brought back to life as a stunning example of <strong data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1258\">Gothic and Renaissance architecture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1261\" data-end=\"1437\">We owe a great deal to the archaeologists and historians who recreated the lavish interiors, gardens, and fountains that once impressed visiting dignitaries from across Europe.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1481\">A royal residence fit for King Matthias<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1483\" data-end=\"1757\">The original stone residence, built in the <strong data-start=\"1526\" data-end=\"1542\">14th century<\/strong>, was relatively modest \u2014 just under 5,000 square feet.
