We will take a walk in the center of Budapest and by discovering the beautiful sights you might also engage your senses around taste. Therefore the Budapest culinary tour is a nice mixture of sightseeing and eating local.
We start the tour in the Central Market Hall near the Liberty bridge. The 120-year old market is of course one of the most important tourist attractions but it’s also a popular local market where people do everyday shopping. Let me show you around the finest products and tell you more about local shopping, eating and drinking culture. We’ll taste sausages, cheese and great Hungarian strudel, too. You’ll of course have the chance to buy the best and cheapest Paprika in town.
I’ll take you to small, authentic artisan shops, so that you can taste local ice cream, cakes and candy. Budapest is very famous for its bakeries. I cannot agree more with one of my guests who has told me that one can never be disappointed when tasting local pastries. I’ll amaze you by the variety of sweet and savoury pastries that are the locals’ favourites.
Local butchers are one of the housewifes’ best friends, the Hungarian cuisine is mostly about meat. Let’s try some hot dog freshly prepared at the butcher’s. Street food is becoming more and more popular among Budapesters, I’ll show you the best places where you can have hot soup in a paper cup. Let’s not forget about the Lángos, the deep fried fritter, very often named the Hungarian pizza.
We’ll taste the Hungarian-Jewish Flódni, which is the best of the best, a layered cake full of poppy seed, walnut, apple and plum jam.
We’ll finish the tour in Gerbeaud, one of the most famous and oldest coffee houses of Budapest. I can tell you about the local café culture, how much Budapesters love their coffee and cakes and enjoy having them in the 150-year-old stunning coffee houses.
I’m the photo editor of a Hungarian food magazine, so don’t hesitate to contact me for great recipes or recommendations about great Budapest restaurants.
